FF XIV: A Realm Reborn PS3 Review and Critique

Here is our FFXIV ARR review (finally) sorry it's so long after release, we were both super busy and this episode required a couple re-edits.

I think you meant to say subscription but pretty funny that you say prescription cuz a game like this is like a drug. I remember the WOW addiction. 🙂

Are you guys wanting an action based mmorpg for FF ? Is that what you are saying ? Like you want FF a la Monster Hunter style but with more players required for boss battles ? I wouldn't mind that.

Ok I watched the entire show you presented and the last 5 minutes or more of it really made me realize I should not play this on console. I played healing class the majority of the time when I was in WOW and this does not sound fun trying to do it in the console game of FF XIV Realm Reborn. Thanks for providing information that gave me the opportunity to make a smart choice and so if I have to play this it will be on pc.

Yes, PC is definitely the way to go for this one, That's one of the reasons we made this vid- so ppl considering the game on console could get a good idea of what they were in for, so I'm glad it helped you make your decision, I think it'll be much more enjoyable on PC.

man I would have been satisfied if it wasn't such a vanilla game, there's nothing exciting about it, even when you build your character and start leveling them, you can't really control how they look, you are at the mercy of your armor, and the quests are just bOOOORING intro quests, for at least the first half of the game, and all the world locations were tiny, FFXIV ARR just committed too many sins, it's too short-shighted in it's approach in my opinion.

But having said that, I could have totally gone for a totally FF MMO had it been done properly. like FFXII was bigger and had cooler stuff to do, this is like getting a fraction of that game and the developers expect you to be happy. I would really love a FF MMO done in the style of FFXV or Lightning returns style combat - or even KH, but yes your Monster Hunter idea sounds good too- I'm looking forward to TESO to be the game to play for that now. woot!

I wish more people would create reviews like this, HONEST reviews of this game. Yours was the only one I managed to find. Perspectives like this sadly are drowned in the excessive flood of gushing reviews acting like this game is the second coming of christ. It's frustrating to me as someone who not only twisted their arm, but outright broke it to give it a chance all the way to the end. I played the PC version, it's really no better, it still has loads of problems even if the controls are a little smoother. The global cool down of I think 2.5 seconds feels like fighting in peanut butter and the combat is anything but fluid. It's clunky and boring and slow as hell, as well as being slower than all other standard mmorpgs I've played in the past 10+ years.
The absurdity of npc text length in their story is so poorly delivered all the way up until end game. I swear they could have cut 75% of its bulk and worked on clarity with much shorter sentences to the audience and drawn more interest to that story. You can plainly see there's a story there and after reading it all the way up until the late 40s nearing the finale. It just became so tiring and convoluted in itself, it was a struggle even reading it to know what I was doing or why, and I still didn't care about any of the characters, so I just started clicking through it. In the grand finale of the story I still didn't care, it was just a bunch of flashing lights and extremely long cutscenes that felt hollow and meaningless when they -should- have felt important and memorable.
In the end it felt like I just finished a massively exhausting chore, and there was no sense of accomplishment, just a 'uhg it's over, never want to do that again'. Where as many other mmorpgs I'm usually hyped to make alts and replay everything again and maybe choose a different path.
This game has no other path, you run through a one way hamster tunnel the whole way and the world has nothing to explore. The zones and dungeons are all like driving through a tourist attraction, but you can't get out of the car. Invisible walls everywhere.
Anyways that ended up longer than intended..lol Thank you for your honest review of the game, I do hope others can see the game for what it really is compared to everything else that's new on the market. And I hope that Square can somehow salvage the second mess they've ticked me off with.

this game has its setup period which can take time to tinker with but when you get used to the systems the game is well done now, with the expansion out I highly recommend if you want the next best thing to wow and tera.

targeting wounded players is not a big deal - may be it was a problem at the time you reviewed the game. Now you can enable customized filters, that can be turned on with a buttoncombo. So only friednly targets are allowed and you wont miss anybody. As alternative you can enable "Select all" - by default friendly players are excluded, when your weapon is in usage (which is a stupid setup for healers).

  A lot has changed since this video was done for the beta. I (Ninja Misty) played for awhile and had a good time. There is tons of new content and it looks great on the ps4. I still have issues with the map, I get lost super easy, but that's nothing new for me. ^-^

  +zinky240 I know there is cross platform play with the ps4, so there should be a lot of people around. I don't know if there is cross play with the pc though.
