I know Hibiki is excited for this one, but she needs to stop dancing in the rain. She might get a cold!
Really, the biggest thing I did in this animation was to do the rain effect. The three main aspects of this were the wet effect on Hibiki, the puddles on the ground, and the effects on the ground with the rain. The wet effect of Hibiki I simply animated two different sets of shininess on her which also darkened those areas to make it look wet. Then, I painted an area over her to tell where that should go. With that, I could have her shoulders look wet, but her armpits dry.
The puddles were easy: I just used noise texture to tell the system where to have puddles and where to have road. Then I animated the appearance of the puddles.
The last thing was the effects on the ground. That itself took forever. Basically I had the raindrops act as "paint" that would draw the effect on the ground that would affect the wet circles and the ripples that appear. This legit took days to do and I might in the future be less precise to speed up things, but I'm not sure.
