Hello everyone,
UP THE IRONS! Here is the moment we've all been waiting for! On Saturday, April 2, 2016, hundreds of metal fans and plane fanatics gathered around Airport Road, close to RWY 23 at Toronto Pearson to witness the arrival of the infamous British metal band, Iron Maiden, in their iconic Ed Force One jumbo jet. The band played their concert at the Air Canada Centre the following day as part of their "Book of Souls World Tour".
As you can see, I was filming at "the Bird's Nest" again, where I managed to meet up with CenturyHornet, theSerbian Aviator, and a massive portion of the Toronto Pearson Aviation group. I would like to say a huge thanks to those guys for making it an awesome day and an unforgettable memory! This was the busiest time at "the Bird's Nest" to date! We also could not have been luckier with the weather! Unfortunately, I was unable to film the band disembarking due to the fact that the North Lounge, which was where the aircraft parked for the duration, was heavily guarded.
This beautiful bird was flown by the one and only, Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden, who happens to have a certified pilot licence. It was so cool to hear Bruce on my airband scanner! The following day, the band rocked over 16,000 fans at the Air Canada Centre. The day after the concert, Ed Force One continued their world tour to Detroit. Toronto is one of four Canadian cities on the tour. The other Canadian cities are: Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal, which is where the band played before Toronto. This is also where Ed Force One arrived from.
After catching this magnificent jumbo jet, I felt on top of the world, and so did all the other planespotters that were by my side. It was the most anticipated catch at the airport for a while and it was a privilege to have finally seen it. I may have caught the catch of the year now, and you shall see it again in my "Best of 2016" compilation.
Welcome back to Toronto Iron Maiden! Always a pleasure to have you in our wonderful city.
FUN FACT: This plane used to belong to Air France as F-GITH, which I last saw on June 27, 2014.
