After the start a couple days ago, it was determined that the #1 and #5 connecting rods were hitting the modified windage tray, and making a noise not unlike a serious connecting rod or bearing issue. So after a lot of sweat and oil spillage, the pan and windage tray came out again, were adjusted and reinstalled. About 8 hours work.
The engine sounds exactly like it should now, an will hopefully be back in the car in a few days.
