The Sahih al-Bukhari is an extensive compilation of authentic Hadith, containing around 7,275 narrations spread across 97 books (known as "Kitab" in Arabic), covering various topics like faith, prayer, ethics, manners, social interactions, jurisprudence, and more. Its compilation aimed to preserve the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad and guide Muslims in matters of religious and daily life.
Imam al-Bukhari, known for his impeccable memory and rigorous standards, spent years traveling across the Islamic world, gathering Hadith from scholars and narrators. He employed stringent criteria to ensure the authenticity of the narrations he included. Each Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari is accompanied by an unbroken chain of narrators (known as "isnad") that traces back to the Prophet Muhammad. Al-Bukhari sought to include only those narrations that met his criteria of having reliable narrators, strong chains, and consistent content.
