I've been using Panic for my other clears lately because I like it. But this? This is where it truly shines as a top tier skill.
Medeus constantly provides +6 Atk and Res to all his nearby allies. Inverting those ensures that I can easily survive and deal a lot more damage to the general enemies of the map.
The real fun part is setting up a scenario where I can survive Medeus's Glacies AND deny his guaranteed follow-up by beating Medeus's Res check with a mere 35 Res to start with.
Here's a quick summary of how it works:
Medeus has 55 Res to start. He gives himself and his allies +6 visible res every turn, which can be inverted by Panic Smoke, causing this to turn into -18 Res (-6 Inversion, -3 Debuff, -9 [Foe Penalty Doubler]). Because I take away his bonus, even at full health, Medeus will only ever get 7 Res from ideal, meaning Medeus can only provide himself a maximum of 50 Res (Base + Weapon + Ideal - Penalties).
Hubert has 35 Base Res + 8 from Arcane/Refine + 7 from Solo 4 + 6 from Solo 3 for a total of 56, enough to comfortably beat the Res check on Assured Rebirth.
Ordinarily, Medeus would hit Hubert for around 80 with his precharged Glacies and then follow-up with the kill if Hubert somehow survived that. Panic Smoke makes it possible to take that down to 40ish with no risk of a double, and a comfortable amount of time to heal up before Medeus can proc another Glacies.
This does require getting most of Medeus's plentiful supports out of the way first, but once only a few are left, Hubert can indefinitely hold the Shadow Dragon himself at bay to clean up what's left.
