I've heard time and time again that Lucha Underground is a show about wrestling, and I agree with that assessment. WWE, for example, is a wrestling show. LU is a lot more gritty than other wrestling shows. That's why I like LU so much. I've always liked Cruiserweight style wrestling though. I was always more into the matches they had on WCW Monday Nitro compared to big main event hoss-type guys. I haven't seen a ton of traditional lucha libre, but I can identify a few of the big names: Dos Caras, Mil Mascaras, Blue Demon, Mistico, etc. I mistakenly use "lucha libre" as a blanket term for the smaller guys that do flippy stuff all the time, but in reality, traditional lucha libre doesn't necessarily have that kind of stuff. Rey Mysterio (Jr) was my gateway into the style, which is why I appreciate it so much.

The rules in lucha libre are different than the American style of wrestling. In lucha libre, you can slide out of the ring during a tag team match and your partner will become the legal participant to take the fall. I haven't seen TNA/Impact in a while, but I know that AAA uses a 6-sided ring. I don't remember how common that is elsewhere, but I've only seen it with TNA/Impact as far as American wrestling goes. All of the Japanese wrestling I've seen takes place in a 4 sided ring. All the Canadian and English wrestling that I've seen takes place in a 4 sided ring as well.

These days though, to be honest, I like a mixed bag of things. I'm into some hoss-type guys like Strowman. I'm into power wrestlers like Cesaro. I love those crazy superhuman guys like Undertaker, Bray Wyatt, Mil Muertes (who is basically LU's Undertaker character) - it hearkens to an era of wrestling that's long gone by. Throw in Amasis and Ophidian - the Ophidian Portal too. If you name it, I'd give it a chance. I'm not too picky, well, not unless it's someone who's over-hyped to the moon, like ZSJ.

Loving the series man. Only just discovered Fire Pro through twitter and well excited for the next one on Steam! Never played the games before but they look so much better than the Smackdown v Raw games. My favourite wrestling game was WWE War Zone back on the PS1, haven't played one that really grabbed me since.

I was pulling for Pentagon in this one myself. Really cool match between these two. I feel you on the traditional lucha thing. I think what takes me out of it is the pace of the matches. They feel so awkward to me, everything seems to be out of place a lot of the time. From the moves, the ring psychology and even the ref.

Damn, what a great match that was!! The counter top shelp Swinging DDT kinda made me markout a little! 🙂 Like MarkSpirals, I was also pulling for Pentagon, but I can't clown on that finish. Phoenix Splash is pretty sweet. I've been a FirePro junkie since about 2001 when I came home from college. It was a really great way to take my mind off things. As for your tournament, I think it's going great so far, and I look forward to seeing the rest of it! The matches, for the most part, have not disappointed...and if I'm being honest, your videos are the first thing I watch every afternoon when I'm getting up and ready to go to work. Keep it up! 🙂

I think I like traditional lucha because its kind of like a slow burn and almost like an armature wrestling match with the switches and other transitions. but as for recommendations, you need to look at some Psycho clown vs Dr Wagner jr matches. Their mask vs mask story line right now is amazing. And as for technicos and rudos it is literally just heel(rudos) and face(technicos). Also Triple A has almost all their full shows on their Youtube Channel. Hope this helps.
