This is really bad news for Hearthstone, is it time to be worried?

Today we go over the apparent cancellation of Cinematic Trailers in Hearthstone and the apparent lack of a board for the accompanying Perils in Paradise expansion which would make it the first expansion/adventure ever to not have a board released with it.

Giving up on new game board definitely is troubling. I can accept the lack of a cinematic as it only really increases hype once and is seen by the community mostly once then forgotten but there have been some very memorable expansion cinematics. As for the game board, it would be the first thing I play with come expansion day. The first couple turns of a game I'd be totally distracted with finding secret easter eggs and destroying things by clicking. They NEED to keep make new game boards!

I have no doubt that they will charge money for boards. They want to squeeze every penny from us to make back the money from buying out blizzard. I had a feeling that something like this would happen soon

Focus on interesting gameplay instead of even more random bullshit and overpriced skins, then maybe people would consider investing money in the game.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I would be surprised if there isn't a system change coming where players need to buy boards in order to play with them. Teamfight Tactics does this as well and it works for them (yes, I know TFT is completely free to play and you can only buy cosmetics). If there is money to be made, Blizzard is going to take it. And funnily enough, it will probably be a net win for them too, because people will buy them.

There is likely a lot of decisions made at the top that are forced on the devs, as is the trend in the triple A companies. Here's the thing though, they encourage us to voice our thoughts which may be important to give them some leeway on certain things, but I don't have faith in them as developers to begin with. Hats response speaks volumes imo. He brings up silly elements of Hearthstones past as if that is all there ever was to those sets and that is what hearthstone as exclusively been. There is a difference between a goofy theme that is the background for the set, and then there is pushing that goofiness into places it doesn't need to be. I will continue to use Decent of Dragons as an example. The sets premise had the League of Evil stealing Dalaran. They stole a whole city, it's pretty goofy on its premise. However, Galakron is not goofy. He portrayed in his cards as a powerful and intimating dragon which he is. He isn't eating cheese. Classes weren't themed around food, and undead horrors weren't having pillow fights. It's gone off the deep end, and Hats only trying to downplay the criticism.

He also doesn't think its out of place but what matters is that the players do. Remember when Anomalies got massive push back and Cora's response was telling people to basically suck it up because they liked it? Remember when they responded to Twist being unavailable randomly as "they think its better". Remember when they nerfed one of the most popular cards to ever release, Renethal, because THEY didn't like that so many people were using it. They have continued to show that they don't care about the player base time and time again. The lack of a cinematic or board may have come from the top, but even if there was a cinematic for the expansion It wouldn't suddenly make me feel like the developers are changing because they did the bare minimum of what once was.
