Overwatch 1 is firmly in the Hero Shooter meta, where defenses are limited and big offense carries fights. With nerfed healing, but also nerfed shields, Ana’s role has shifted to be more about playmaking pressure with healing as a secondary option when sustaining for the next big play. In Awkward’s Unranked to GM, a Gold DPS player called him (a T2 Pro & Rank 1 Peak) a a “bronze” for being a “DPS Ana.” But failing to see the pressure value of a sniper hitscan hybrid hero in the support class who also heals is a misread of how to play the character. To be sure, playing aggressively for duel interactions and playmaking can take a bigger skill requirement, but playing passively is better done by many other support heroes.
