I find Rein as the most boring and frustrating hero, a man with a hammer in an fps world of guns. You hold an umbrella all game and swing a bit, it's the worst character.

I'd put Reinhardt as being the best designed hero in the game.... ... Nay... in *any* game, and I don't even think that's close to an exaggeration.
For one thing he is the best example of a tank I have ever seen... A massive and flexible shield to protect his team with, almost entirely close ranged kit with a huge hammer which promotes him to get in close and be a huge threat which people want to shoot at, a massive disruption ultimate. But everything which feels awesome to play with in his kit also feels awesome to play against... literally nobody I've ever heard of says that Rein lacks counterplay and is a pain to fight against. Every single matchup in the game involving Rein is one of the most fun things to have for both sides, in particular the Rein v Rein matchup is famous for being the most intense chess game Overwatch is capable of having. With both Reigns playing literal FGC footsies with their hammer swings, trying to bait out the enemy attack by stepping back before whiff punishing with their own, and flashing their shield to try and bait and block the enemy Rein's shatter.

And furthermore the way his personality and character is represented in his gameplay is *THE* absolute best I have ever seen in a game. He's a bit of a hothead and loves to charge in and smack things about, but also knows his duty to protect his team and lives with regret for the times when he didn't do so... This is represented by him being the only tank who can't attack and shield at the same time... people like Orisa she puts down her shield and then shoots through it, Sigma throws up his shield and then shoots through it, Winston jumps in and then dances in and out of the bubble while shooting through it... etc. Rein can't do that and to do damage he needs to stop shielding, New Reinhardt players will do one or the other far too much and will ether be too aggressive and cause their team to lose their shield for a while, or be too passive and miss out on opportunities, he's got his ult which needs him to do damage to be effective and his abilities are incredibly rewarding to land. And so better Rein players successfully managing when to shield and when to attack gives him an incredible duality to his gameplay, dropping his shield occasionally to poke at enemies when the time presents itself.
And then there's his Rocket Charge... Rein players are constantly tempted to do high risk charges into the enemy team because if it's successful then that's literally an instant pick onto whichever enemy he grabs, DPS? Support? Even enemy fucking Tanks? Doesn't matter... they die if they get charged. But once again not that it's OP, it's got very easy counterplay to it and is very risky to attempt and if he misses he'll be miles away from his allies by the end of it, unable to protect them, and probably have to be saved himself (this is *literally* exactly what happened in his cinematic)..
