Overwatch's Stupid SMURF Problem and Bronze to GM is Silly!

Overwatch has a serious smurfing problem across all platforms, but how can this be fixed? While leveling a new account I realized I'm causing so much collateral damage to the game, am I actually causing people to stop playing Overwatch unintentionally? Oh and, Bronze to GM challenges are stupid, please stop that.

I’ve felt really crappy today destroying peoples games leveling a new account up. All that damage I’ve caused to people’s games through no fault of my own. Overwatch has a real smurfing problem, we know this… but the question is how can it be fixed?

My problem with overwatch on PC is the damn motherfking leavers were on 5/10 games i had leavers on my team with 1 of them being a 1v5 No joke

Ok. I’ve had a serious issue on Console (other then smurfing) on quickplay.
This comment isn’t meant to boost my self esteem or give me an opportunity to brag)

I play mainly quick play, I’ve played comp for a long time but I think I’ve just stopped feeling like playing comp. I just don’t really find it fun anymore, so I am pretty much just a quick play player and there are a couple things I have noticed that are really frustrating and is ruining my fun in the game.
An instant pick when the match starts is one person as Hanzo and one as Widow. They will not switch off and are not as good at the hero as they think they are, I’m fine with having a Hanzo or Widow on the team even if they aren’t the best at them, practice is needed to get better, but when I get both of them on my team, it’s basically throwing as they are missing 90% of their shots. If you try and pick Widow or Hanzo before these kind of people they go on mic, beg for the hero and if you don’t give it to them they throw. A good sniper can dominate a game, but too many snipers that are mediocre at best leave a point in need of capturing and a cart in need of pushing. This slightly leads into my next issue. I love Ashe lately, I’m a massive fan of the character and I’m usually the first person on the team to pick their hero. Usually I would expect players to build a team off of hero picks from their teammates, so if we had two people pick offence at the start, the logical thing to do is to pick Tank or Support. But I’m finding that people don’t care about team balance in quickplay. After asking people about it, they usually respond with “Its quickplay, it’s meant to be casual and unbalanced, if you want a balanced team play competitive. But to me competitive is a completely different experience from Quick-play. It has a much more serious environment and certain heroes are completely off limits from playing. So I return to quickplay. The match starts and I select Ashe. Someone then picks Widow and then someone replies with a Hanzo. We then get a DVA then a Doomfist, and lastly someone picks Genji. Match starts and lets say we’re on offence on a payload map. The doors open and we rush out, the widow and Hanzo get countersniped by a single widow on the other team, DVA gets mowed down by a bastion behind an Orisa bubble, doomfist pushes in even though his teammates are dead. I take a couple shots, take out the widow then get pulled in by the Orisa and get mowed down by her and the Bastion. The game repeats this scenario and we lose. Now this happens 9/10 games, unless I change from the hero I have fun with to a hero my team needs that I have basically no fun with at all. We only win if I switch to a support or a tank, even if we already have people filling that roll. I don’t understand why but that’s just how my games work. This comments getting really long but I just wanted to share my experiences even though people might not even see it. Thanks for reading.

I think there should be an option to mark players as smurfs. It would work similarly to the avoid teammate function. Once a certain amount of people mark the player as a smurf, Blizzard can look into it to confirm and from then on the smurf account will only be matched with other smurf accounts. Personally I think this would stop smurfing entirely. Realistically, however, I doubt Blizzard really cares about this since every new account means more money made.

QP isn't the best when it comes to smurfs. Even when people have ranks its still a mess at times. I remember like a month or so ago I was put into a QP game and the enemy team had a DPS player who was about 1500 SR higher than me. Smurfs aren't going to use anything that would get them close to their original account, thats not their goal. Their goal is to ruin comp for everyone but themselves and their team. I'm sure everyone under Diamond and some above have run into multiple games with smurfs. Are those fun to play? Hell no, because you can tell something isn't right.

These Bronze to GM "challenges" also are a big problem in promoting the idea of smurfing. People are going to see these better players just shitstomping lower ranks and they'll go "Holy shit, this looks great. I want to do that too." And thus one streamer can cause who knows how many other people to create smurfs. Alternate accounts I feel are the subject of another video since they share some properties but also have some different problems.

Smurf hasn't been a problem on console for awhile actually, because no one plays ow anymore

meet a tracer smurf that just destroyed our team when we attacked on dorado but we managed to get all 3 Points because when we killed tracer no one els did anything so on defence we just counter picked tracer and targeted her and they got toxic. thats just a smurf that hates that he/she got killed by lower levels but he ruined it for the rest of his team and he keept feeding more and more as he/she got more and more mad at the game
