PSO2: Jungle - 雨風とともに3 [In the Driving Rain 3] BGM

"Jungle" from Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II is back for PSO2's Emergency Quest "In the Driving Rain 3", in it's original dynamic glory - and complete with brand new unce-unce-unce beats for PSE Burst, just like the rest of PSO2's dynamic field BGM. I just had to record it in case they didn't release an official soundtrack version. This is my favourite PSO1 song so it made me super happy to hear them finally use it in some form in PSO2, even if it isn't a full remix. The fact that they went to the effort to make it not just dynamic again, but gave it more prompt changeover points than the original AND a PSE Burst version? Fanservice enough for me. I mixed the three versions of the song into one long medley here.

For those unfamiliar, this song originally comes from Phantasy Star Online: Episode II, where it was used for Gal de Val Island's fields, Central Control Area, Seaside Area, the two Jungle Areas, Mountain Area, and the two Control Towers. Exploring Gal de Val's beautiful scenery was a highlight of Episode II for sure, and I was always impressed with how this one song managed to suit five very different feeling areas so flawlessly. The stage boss of this field, Gal Gryphon, is going to be added to PSO2 soon as a throwback for the upcoming anniversary celebrations!

For those of you who haven't had the chance to play PSO2 yet, this plays on an emergency quest (limited time quests that are only available for half an hour - sometimes random, sometimes pre-scheduled), in which you must take to the first field, Forest, and fight a variety of enemies and bosses amidst a downpour of rain. Similar quests have been available at this time of year previously (hence the "3") but this is the first time that this Emergency Quest has had unique music as far as I remember (previous years just used the regular PSO2 Forest theme).

Thanks for posting this. I had done the EQ twice on super hard and never once even noticed the music as they were pretty tense playthroughs.

Fun Fact: this is a track from pso1 expansion game, its called Jungle a forest cage. I liked it a lot back then too. come to think of it, most of the music in pso2 is just reused tracks. Thanks for posting this! much better then some of the old posts. 😀

  I gotta say, most of the new tracks are kinda boring compared to the older stuff. at least so far.

  +Nathan Smith The boss music tends to be great, as is the music from the Challenge Quests and Mining Base Defense. Both of these kinds of music have much stronger melodies, since they're not designed to be as constantly changing as the regular field music (which has loads of changeover points from regular to battle version and vica verca). Meanwhile boss, challenge and mining base defense only changes over at specific points of progress in the quest, and is otherwise left alone to play out in a linear fashion.   Just to let you know, Challenge Quest can be played any time since you restart at Level 1 for every run of it, just go to a 300+ number block, or the shared ship to play it (obviously your progress/equipment is restored when you return to the regular blocks). It's a pretty tough mode though so the more familiar you are with the game the better, good idea to read a guide or two if it's overwhelmingly confusing.

  +Gabriel Cardoso It was first heard in Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II for Gamecube, but Blue Burst contained all of the content from that version of the game, so yes this song and the area it was written for were in Blue Burst.
  
  The only exception is the third version of the theme in this video, with the added dance beats, which was newly created for it's usage in PSO2 (and the reason I bothered to record/upload it here).
