About PUBG MOBILE : PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online multiplayer battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South Korean video game company Bluehole. It was first released through Steam Early Access in March 2017, with a full release on December 20, 2017. Ports for Xbox One, iOS, Android, and PlayStation 4 followed in 2018.
Inspired by the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, the game has one hundred players parachute onto an island and scavenge for gear to defend themselves from other players. They have the option of fighting alone (Solo), with another player (Duos), or with a team of three others (Squads). As time progresses, the playable area within the island gradually constricts to force encounters between players, until one player or team remains, thus ending the match. Experience earned from matches goes towards cosmetic items, including clothing and skins for weapons, which can also be purchased with in-game currency.
The game originated as a modification for ARMA 3 (2013), and was later expanded into a standalone game under the creative direction of Brendan Greene, the game's namesake. It's initial release was unstable and had performance issues, prompting Bluehole to focus on improving the overall experience of the game, following its rise in popularity, instead of introducing downloadable content (DLC), releasing updates at a faster pace to get the game into a stable release, whilst introducing features such as loot boxes and built-in broadcasting tools.
Despite being released in an unfinished state, Battlegrounds received positive reviews from critics, who praised its accessible learning curve, engaging gameplay, high replayability and innovation. The game was nominated for several awards, including a Game of the Year nomination. The game steadily gained popularity, and by June 2018 had sold fifty million copies and surpassed 400 million players worldwide. Though it was not the first in the battle royale genre (games like H1Z1 had long preceded Battlegrounds' release), it is credited with popularizing the genre by introducing new concepts and types of gameplay. Following its success, a number of games based on the same concept emerged, including Fortnite Battle Royale and Apex Legends, while others added a similar mode, notably Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Danger Zone), Battlefield V (Firestorm), and Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (Blackout).
