1967 Thunderbird 428 Holley carburetor - stalling during left hand turn

投稿日:

My 1967 Thunderbird with a 428 and a Holley 4548 (450 cfm) carburetor, is sometimes stalling during a left hand turn in 80 to 90 degree temperature. The engine has been running at about 178 degrees. My theory is that the centrifugal force causing the gas in the bowls to move to one side, is casing the a floating condition.

So, I attempted to adjust the floats. It did seem that they were set too high, since some gas flowed out of the sight holes when I removed the plugs (primary and secondary). I reset the floats so that gas only came out of the floats when the car was rocked from side to side, by turning the adjusting nuts clockwise. I also reset the jets to be 1 1/2 turn out from the closed position. The engine now starts great and idles smoothly, and I am not able to get the car to stall when suddenly letting off of and reapplying the brake when I have the accelerator depressed a little, in my garage. I now need to road test it, to see if this helped or if I need to adjust more, or if the issue is something else, but it is now raining! I have the fuel pressure set at 7 psi (mechanical pump).
