Anand Vardhan Singh talks about the hearing in the Supreme Court of India on ongoing Farmers’ Protests against 3 new Central farm laws. The bench headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde slammed the Narendra Modi Government for not handling the farmers issues in proper manner. It has hinted that if the Government does not put a hold on the implementation of Farm Laws, it will do so. However, the SCI will pronounce the Judgement on Tuesday January 12th, 2021.
During the hearing of the case, the court showed its anger and observed that these laws were passed without proper consultation. They also showed the concern about the growing protests and about old people participating in it during this harsh cold. The Court is likely to form a committee of experts and retired Supreme Court Judges which will hear all the parties and make a way out to end this dead-lock. Since the last few verdicts pronounced by the Supreme Court of India, people have been raising questions on it but today’s observations by SCI and the kind of remarks they gave about the Government has once against restored the faith of the common people of India in its Judicial System.
The Court has clearly asked the Government to put the farm laws in abeyance and resolve the issues. They did not yield on the requests on Solicitor General of India Mr. Venugopal and asked if there is a bloodshed in protests, who shall be held responsible. During its harsh comments, the CJI Bobde said that we have given the Centre a long rope but it has not been serious in resolving the issue.
