1969 Ford 428 Cobra for sale

更新日:

1969 Ford 428 Cobra fastback

The muscle car wars of the late ’60s were nothing to take lightly. They didn’t just happen in Detroit and Southern California, they happened from coast-to-coast. Scores were settled on isolated stretches of highway and drag strips all over the nation. Sometimes Ford won; sometimes Chevrolet won. And sometimes it was another nameplate entirely. Much of it depended on who was in better tune on a given night… At this point in time these cars were built to be raced on Sundays and sold on Mondays and the no fuss, balls to the wall theory is what eventually made the muscle car era pop with the government stepping in to regulate the high performance models. Want to step back in time before all the rules? Jump into any of the drag pack cars of the late 60’s and you’ll work out pretty quickly that these cars are serious performers straight off the showroom floor… get in, grab the wheel and turn the key and fire up the famous 428 Cobra Jet big block and you’ll work out pretty quickly if this excites you or terrifies you…

This is Ford’s ’69 Fairlane Cobra. A lot of us tend to call them Torino Cobras, which didn’t happen until 1970. In 1969, they were Fairlane’s, available in fastback or notchback form. This particular model worn neither nameplate and was simply called the Cobra… Only one power plant was available: the 335-horse, 428ci, Cobra Jet FE-series big-block, with a choice of either the Top Loader four-speed or C6 Select-Shift. Like the Mustang, you had a wide selection of axle ratios and that was the only option you could get on this car, this one was optioned up with 3.00 and Traction-Lok called the “Drag Pack” and is finished in it’s correct Ford’s Black Jade for 1969. It’s a beautiful colour in the sunlight and the black 428 Cobra Jet hood scoop sits on top of the bonnet and the factory lumpy cam pumps an intimidating bellow out the exhaust letting everyone know something tuff is lurking beneath.

The slippery Torino/Fairlane fastback roofline was inspired by NASCAR. Not only did it function well on the superspeedways long ago, it still looks fast today just sitting still. This is the Cobra as it came from the Arnold Bros Motor Co in Boulder Colorado as sent from the Californian, San Jose assembly plant, no mods other than lowering blocks in the rear cos we like everything low.

So, this is a Matching number 428 Cobra Jet, auto trans, power steering, disc brake front, traction-lok diff, factory metallic Jade Black paint and black trim on 14-inch styled steel wheels. The Cobra was recently road worthied and complied and registered in QLD and then sold to a lady we deal with regularly in NSW… This car was a bit more than she bargained for and we have recently helped her into another Impala and putting this car back on the market. NO TEST PIOLETS! It is a tuff factory build drag car of its era so factor that in… Marti report, some restoration pictures, NSW pink slip and import approval come with the sale.
