Call of Duty Modern Warfare is Propaganda

I recently spoke highly of the Modern Warfare Campaign. I will maintain that from a mechanical and gameplay perspective it is excellent and well worthy of playing.... but when looking at it from a narrative standpoint... there is an undeniable atmosphere of historical revisionism and a propagandist spin on demonizing a politically convenient opponent.

Ok, it's pretty clear after a few minutes this is going to be a controversial one. All I ask is that people listen to the whole thing before responding. I don't expect everyone to agree, but it's worth discussing how when some things are changed, everyone is happy about it, but when others are... it creates backlash. My intent is to try and avoid the typically blinding bias of favorable historical revisionism.
Also, People are rightly correcting a mistake. My notes were mixed up, the referenced Highway of Death ambush took place during the Gulf War, not the Iraq war.

People are absolutely salivating over the fact I said 2003... get over it. It was literally a skipped line in my pages of notes so I referenced the wrong year... it invalidates nothing, and changes nothing... and people comparing it to CoD itself are completely off base. CoD didn't make a small mistake, they CHANGED the events deliberately in a totally unnecessary and slanted way. Focus on things that are relevant instead of cumming in your pants that a youtube got one fact wrong.

  I think you might be thinking waaay to much into this. Had they claimed that the way they portrayed it as how the real event went down, then sure you'd have a point, but what they actually did is take an interesting real world event and throw a classic bad guy at it, and I'm cool with that.

  I watched your entire video because I hate people who comment before absorbing the entire piece, but now that I have I think that you did a great job in really articulating your points and some of those things I believe is historical revisionism specifically as it pertains to the highway if death... However I feel like you missed one important part that invalidates a lot of what you're saying, and that is that modern warfare is a remake of an existing game in which your main enemy was Russia. I don't think that it is as malicious as you made it out to be, instead I think they are trying to keep to the source material.
  
  In the re2 remake for example, even though a lot of things are different the key players from the original are still there. So in that same way, it makes sense the modern warfare team would still keep with some of the same plot from their original.
  
  Tldr: Russia was the main enemy of the original modern warfare games, so it's not pandering or anything strange for them to be the main enemy of the remake.

The embassy mission is pretty much the Benghazi embassy attack but with more US casualties, but IRL it wasn't British SAS doing the defending like in the game which sounds like the same revisionist history, but he doesn't seem to care about that, he only cares about the one that he thinks is trying to make the US look better. It was something the devs thought would be a cool set piece, nothing more or less, and it seems like he's looking for controversy where there is none.

People saying in the comments they don't care because the game isn't supposed to represent reality and the russians are just being whiny. Imagine you playing a game that depicted americans as blatant war criminals. Everyone lost their minds playing Spec Ops The Line, remember? That's how a russian player is feeling, except the evil army isn't a splinter faction from a post apolitical wasteland, it's their entire nation.

Not exactly difficult to demonize the former USSR that did shoot down a South Korean airline.
Now had they included in this story some type of collusion then that would've been a huge propaganda push.
In MW2, was the controversial airport scene not also carried out by Russia?

How is being anti Russian have anything to do with social justice issues? Intelligence agencies have proved there was interference by Russia during the 2016 election. The extent of the interference is not entirely clear but it has been proven. Also when you play as white male Americans killing other white male Russians how does this have to do with hating white males I mean your argument does not make sense. On top of that you contradict yourself by saying that the game has to appeal to multiple demographics in the United states since Russia is an easy enemy to pick it will sell well but then you say it caters to the social justice movement which means gamers like yourself would then go on a rant and say it should flop if it caters to a small group within that political sphere.

Holy shit, suddenly the left is why Russia is the enemy in this? Russians were always one of the bad guys of the modern warfare series. How this is suddenly new and because of sjws makes no sense. The reframing of American atrocities was probably at the behest of the us army, which works with both movies and game studios so long as they are allowed to look like the heroes. So, yeah, it's propaganda, always has been, but not because of the headlines of today, but because if you told the truth of the Highway of Death, the player might think "Wait, that's aweful. Were we the baddies?"
