With a few days of play time on the 1-3-2 Triple Damage role queue experimental card, wanted to review what we've learned about how this mode of Overwatch plays and key take-aways from the experiment. Triple Damage Role Queue may fix the queue time problem in one fell swoop, but it makes Overwatch play in an odd lopsided way that none of us are used to. We could perhaps acclimate to it, but for now, it's fairly jarring and seems to sacrifice the stability and teamplay that's comfortable to us to instead allow Tanks to run rampant or to make space for DPS duels to carry the game like they never have before. It's troubling for Blizzard that if they can't convert players into being interested in the core of the game, Tank and Support and so they trying to shape the game around the pure damage dealing role, but then we're playing a wonky hero shooter rather than the hero FPS plus MOBA hybrid we're used to. An interesting experiment, but I see it as a bit too much of a change for most current players in order to try to lure in FPS casuals, sacrificing elements that made Overwatch great along the way. Especially considering that the 2-2-2 balancing is in a great spot, it's hard to see this as an upgrade.
