With Overwatch 2 on the horizon and a much better scope on what to expect for Overwatch 1 I thought it was a good time to re-evaluate where the game is at and where it's going. Truthfully I think the developers drastically undersell what they're working on, that was the case with the real scope of OW2 in 2019 and it is again with the current OW1 content as they quietly tease that more features ARE in fact coming before the sequels launch. It feels difficult to track what they're working on due to how little they tell us, but I think it's pretty clear that they're doing both games at the same time and in fact, major progress towards OW2 PvP revamp has ALREADY been fused into the live game, with more goodies coming this year TBA. With the balance state relatively strong, queue time improvements with Priority Pass a blossoming Workshop system, improvements to OWL - I'm struggling to find something to be pessimistic about. Sure there's no new heroes for a while, but that may actually produce the best competitive year of OW yet... If they ever add tournaments or a revamp ranked - a more in depth discussion for another day!
