Blizzard claimed that Overwatch 2 would be a live service game, then delayed their patches and committed to a plan that will inevitably leave the games balance lagging behind the new elements and problems they introduce. It doesnt look too hopeful, as we're required to grind through worse metas than are necessary to give Blizzard the data that is required for them to make a decision that can be made with informed feedback. What was the point of the hotfix infrastructure to quickly make tuning adjustments if its never used? Blizzard has a lot to account for in Season 2 to right the ship. I get counter picked CONSTANTLY as tank in OW2. That basically wasn't even a thing in OW1. I also get counter picked a lot as DPS and that was also fairly rare in OW1. Rein needed the steadfast passive because Rein specifically is a melee hero with poor mobility. Giving all the tanks that passive was dumb. Especially Winston, Orisa and Ball (and doom if they ever fix him)

I don't understand why people are not getting this part about supports but many of the tanks are near impossible to kill if supports are alive. As long as that is true Supports are going to be the primary target of everyone. Most Supports are not designed around being constantly focused or being able to deal with that kind of focus.

The DPS passive was beyond stupid and I knew that the instant I saw it.

Yes, OW2 is a patch and still in beta. Yes, we all saw this coming. Yes, you still get upset when you're tanks get nerfed. Yes, the store is still working and gets updated weekly.

I think this argument is dishonest. When sojourn was in alpha no one wanted to play her. She seemed ok, but the general consensus was that she wasn't meta defying (no one played her in OWL). It wasn't until around the end of beta 2 that she got some powerful buffs. You can say "everyone saw this coming, Blizzard should have known she was busted", but they made a blog post at the beginning of OW2 on how the game had around equal pick and win rates for heroes.
Now, to be fair it has become pretty obvious that some characters have become unhealthy for the meta at certain levels of play. I do think sojourn should be adjusted top down since she is a high skill hero, but to say that Blizzard is incompetent for not making a split-second change to characters is nonsensible. I know you represent a high level / High skill portion of the community, but that does not mean that you have the best opinions on the future of this game.
For every stance you have on this game there are always going to be a majority of people with different perspectives on "problems" with this game. For example, as a support main I hate how mercy got changed 3 times in the beta. That is not to say that she didn't end up in a good spot; it's just that the reasoning for changing her so much was "her new power jump is too hard for me to use so they should change her!!!" As someone who found it pretty simple to use every single version of Mercy they came out with, I felt one of my favorite characters was being changed by people who don't even play her competitively. But overall, it was for the better that Blizzard changed her, and I have come to love Mercy V4.
Overall, I'm worried that youtubers and content creators will pressure Blizzard into changing characters for a certain subset of people and that these changes will not be healthy for the game. You keep saying that Blizzard shouldn't make the same mistakes they made in OW1, but does the same not apply for you and many other content creators? I don't know how you recall the start of OW1, but I remember how you and many other content creators would scream to the heavens on how you can and cannot play certain heroes during an era where nobody even knew how to play the game and you could in fact play any hero you wanted. Like you said I just hope we are not making the same mistakes again.

Their problem is that you cannot balance a game like Overwatch from the top down.

If you think about ANY STRUCTURE, when have you EVER seen a civil engineer or an architect try to achieve balance from the top down?

And Blizzard needs to abandon the idea that _"if its good for the top players, it's good for the game as a whole",_ because that simply isn't true. Trickle-down economics didn't work, and neither will trickle-down balancing.

ESPECIALLY given that "live service" games should be targeting the bulk of players, not the necessarily the best. You need to keep your casual audience engaged for the game to survive. At this rate OW2's competitive scene won't last 2 years, because 85% of the 85% of low rank players would have left... taking thier casual dollars with them.

The issue is that balancing things for 85% of players (mid-diamond to low bronze) throws EVERYTHING out of whack for the top 15% of players... and unfortunately, the top 15% of the community is the only portion of users Blizzard _really_ cares about, because it directly impacts the viability of their E-Sports league. Which is why I will ALWAYS stand by my belief that the OWL was an awful idea and cannibalized the fun of the experience and it's been struggling to get its footing ever since it was first announced and they started making changes to accommodate the OWL.

I've said for 4 years now, the play isn't to keep doing this see-saw patching/balancing, where the game is in a constant state of flux... *_BLIZZARD NEEDS 2 DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE GAME!_*

One should be balanced for the bottom 85% of players.
The other should be EXCLUSIVELY for
Mid-Diamond/Masters/GM/Top 500.

Until Blizzard realizes that despite this being one game it's played 2 ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WAYS at the top and the bottom and create 2 different versions to accommodate both sides of the community they are going to constantly have the same issue that plagued OW1, the rub is that this isn't new, and players won't hang around half as long as they did the first time.

I can understand the frustration for some players, but during my games, I've rarely come across this issue of counter picking, in fact I've been able to play hero's outside of meta and win against hero's in meta as well as play hero's I just enjoy.
