Blizzard Dev Leak Explains Why Jeff Kaplan Quit

Sir Swag spoke to a Blizzard dev insider who knew of the inner tourmil within the PvE team for Overwatch 2 and how management forced them into a vicious cycle doomed to fail. With this information it seems clear why Jeff Kaplan left when there was pressure to change his aspirational vision for Overwatch 2 and the franchise as a whole and it seems he got out before he had to lie to the millions of fans.

Executives are genuine fkin idiots. The reason people loved overwatch so much is because of the lore and the characters. The pve would flesh it out so much more and increase investment, similar to what Riot is doing for League.

Ideally Microsoft buys out Activision Blizzard, demotes Bobby, and reinstates Jeff Kaplan as head of Blizzard gaming division. Then allows them the money and freedom to keep making good games without a money string attatched.

Seriously this is why I have largely given up on Blizzard - at least outside of Diablo 4.

By some miracle that game has been pure gold thus far, the marketing is on point and the devs are really paying close attention to feedback. It's like the complete opposite of Overwatch.

I dunno how they did it, what favors were called in etc. but it's looking like the last bastion of the old Blizzard I grew up with and I will support it and only it.

I hope OW2 dies a painful death. The worst thing is Kotick was nearly ousted at long last as a result of that lawsuit but the shitheads voted to keep him at the last minute.

So Jeff wasn't behind the "utopian" ideal that still plagues OW today? Where players can't take any advice or criticism and report you, eventually leading to multiple bans? This "utopia" where your only choice is to sit silently in a "team" game bc coms disallow anyone to discuss a better team plan or point out flaws in the team? What is a team game where no one is allowed to speak freely. Yes, it comes with its issues; not everyone is respectful. Remove the report system. Toxic or not, this is a team game. That, and remove private profiles. Again, it's a team game. We need to know our player's stats even if they are silent.
