Soldier 76 was a meta dps for a long time, but over time was pushed into the background, what happened? Well, power creep mostly. Both the DPS offerings were optimized over time making the ranged advantage soldier had less relevant but also we find ourselves in the most stable backline + burst heal meta we've ever seen. Burst healing is particularly bad for soldier and the main reason why his playstyle is dead, because instead of being able to poke and exploit low targets, almost like in the instant rez meta, instant burst heal can save targets from near death. Whether its ana's shots, nades, nano boost or armor pack from brig -even Lucio's amp got buffed. All these supports are strong, making Soldier's place weak. He may look better in a meta where Zen is on top, to both amplify his damage playing with Zen but also overwhelm the damage of Zen's low 30h/s orb. Either that, or maybe another crazy buff to Mercy may do the trick, however the burst value of Doomfist Ana Widow and Hanzo make it seem unlikely that we'll see Soldier 76 in a prominent meta position for a long time. Still though, if you want to play Soldier he doesn't so much lose you the game, but doesn't win it either -- unless you play as well as Babybay, who's footage is featured today and stream is linked below, check him out!
