The role of the country’s Forest Board has been questioned, with the Northern Governor, Gary Juffa calling for an overhaul of the Board, as well as the PNG Forest Authority.
In a media conference today, Governor Juffa claimed the recent actions of the Forest Board in granting a Forest Clearance Authority, without following proper procedures, for a controversial logging project in his province, was highly suspicious.
He said whilst there was support from the Government to clean-up the forestry industry, the actions of the Minister and Acting Board Chairman in recent time did nothing to protect local landowners.
